Seed exports to the EU and NI - reduced requirement for systematic lab testing

Currently, all regulated seed for planting exported from GB is subject to systematic laboratory testing for plant health purposes, and this has been proportionate to arrangements for exports to non-EU countries. For the majority of seed which is exported from GB>EU, or moved from GB>NI, there are no specific import requirements to be met, and so we are limiting the need to submit samples to the laboratory to those cases where an initial assessment in the field needs to be confirmed/further investigated. There are qualifying criteria detailed in the specific Q&A for seeds. This will enable export phytosanitary certificates in most cases to be issued on the basis of a visual examination alone, making the process significantly quicker.
