New Sanitary and Phytosanitary Agreement with the European Union - Call for Information

Last updated on: 17 March 2026

On Monday 9 March, the Environment Secretary Emma Reynolds set out how UK exporters and importers are expected to benefit from a new Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement with the European Union. The agreement is being negotiated now and is expected to take effect from mid-2027. It aims to make trade easier, cheaper and quicker for businesses that move food and agricultural goods between the UK and the EU.

This announcement encourages businesses to begin preparing early. UK businesses will need to meet EU rules within the scope of the agreement, whether trading with the EU or serving only the UK market. Government has also asked businesses to share what guidance and support they need through a new Call for Information.
